The Rocks Sydney
One of the most visited landmarks in Sydney, The Rocks are a gateway to the city's historical past. This area is the foundation place of Australia, and is where the First Fleet left its passengers in the late 1700's. The Rocks is often described as Sydney's 'Outdoor Museum'.

The site of the original Sydney settlement, The Rocks were one of the more sleazy areas of the city until a restoration process began in the 1970's to clean it up and make it into a more presentable historical landmark. This site is now a hotspot for businesses, tourists and locals alike, and most of the historical buildings have been preserved and restored to their original beauty. Stop by the Visitors Center upon arriving here for information on attractions and maps, and set out to explore!

A walking tour is the best way to see this area. Self-guided tour books and maps can be purchased so that point out various areas of interest and historical significance on the way. If you would like to take a guided tour, stop by the Rocks Walking Co. for information.

The Rocks isn't all about history, though. A fantastic Museum of Contemporary art is located here, which holds an impressive collection of works. Outdoor concerts are often playing, and street theatres abound. The Rocks Market is open on weekends, and provides a great place to find that perfect Australian souvenir. If you're hungry, there are a wide array of restaurants to choose from as well.
