Taronga Zoo Sydney
Taronga Zoo is the ideal place to take the kids to, and is great for seeing Australian wildlife up close. This park is located in the scenic Sydney Harbour, offering great views and photo opportunities as you wander around.
Opened in 1916, the zoo has since become Australia's premiere zoo, and one of the best zoo's in the world. The best way by far to get to the zoo is by taking the ferry across the harbor to the grounds, although it can be reached by car as well. From the water, take the Sky Safari chairlift to the main area of the zoo. This is by far one of the best parts of the park itself, and provides amazing views of the grounds and surrounding area.
The layout and habitats of the park are impressive, with most of the animals' enclosures replicating their natural habitats. The zoo is host to many exotic and amazing animals that provide hours of entertainment for spectators. The two red pandas are adorable, and the chimpanzees are energetic and hilarious. Koala bears, an animal that is native to Australia, can be seen here, along with two fluffy Dingos and a pack of Kangaroos. The Cats of Asia display is home to two rare Sumerian Tigers as well as a beautiful snowy white tiger.
The Gorilla and Orangutan enclosures host a multitude of these endearing animals. There are also two cute platypus here as well, which are rather strange, duck-billed aquatic animals that are native to Australia. Before leaving be sure to stop by the petting zoo, where younger children especially will be thrilled with the chance to pet some of the zoo's tamer animals.
