Sydney's nightlife is alive and kicking, with hundreds of pubs and clubs speckling the city's streets. Sydney's residents love to wander the city at night, and enjoy a cold drink in a pub usually on more than one occasion per week. This has resulted in an abundance of such places in every neighborhood in the city, so visitors are sure to have a wide range of pubs in whatever area they are staying in.
The King's Cross area is one of the most popular bar spots, attracting locals and tourists alike. This results in a fun, cultural, and mixed atmosphere that is sure to be a blast. O'Malley's has nightly live rock music, and usually safe bet for a good time. For a quieter night, head to Ritzroy Hotel. A diverse crowd makes their hangout at Darlo Bar.
Durty Nellies, Paddington's traditional Irish Pub, is full of fun and great beer. The Hero of Waterloo, located in The Rocks, has a fantastic and friendly atmosphere. If you're right downtown, head to The Basement, which features probably the best live music in the city, including everything from rock to jazz.
If nightclubs are your thing, Home is the definitely the place to be. While the wait to get in is often long, this fantastic club is definitely worth it. Dress to impress when coming here. Q-Bar, while hard to locate, spins some of the best tunes in town and serves free sushi between 5 and 10 pm.
Gay tourists will enjoy Sydney's happening bar scene. The Imperial Hotel has fantastic drag shows, and is usually packed every night. Midnight Shift is a predominately-male club that has been open for over twenty years due to its enormous popularity.
